Amanda's fun names

"We aren't trying to be clever, we're trying to have fun."
— Amanda Payne

Earlier this semester, I told my Socio class how I have had a lifelong(ish) passion for making up fun names, such as for example Joe Ksargood (='Jokes are good'). Then in our final review game, one of the teams named themselves Joe Ksargood. It was one of the rare times when a students' chosen team name didn't vex or confuse me. I was delighted beyond measure! There's a certain joy in the rigid creation of these very unserious names, so I figured I'd record it here for posterity.

Guidelines for name-making

  1. Non-name word boundaries should not align with the boundary between first and last name. (i.e. Rupaul's Drag Race's Pandora Boxx doesn't qualify)
  2. The name should contain at least two non-name words in it (i.e. Elly Mentary ('elementary') doesn't qualify)
  3. This is more challenging to quantify, but it should be the name equivalent of a dumb pun -- we aren't trying to be clever, we're trying to have fun!
  4. Ideally this goes without saying, but it shouldn't be offensive, either in the non-name words or in employing stereotypes.

OK, let's get to the good stuff!

Funny names (contributions welcome!)

If you 'don't get' some (most? all?) of them, that's half the fun, I'm afraid. :)

Hall of Shame (rule-breakers and others I deemed duds)
